The 8th annual SPAM Parade & SPAM-O-RAMA Festival is Saturday, Aug. 25, in Shady Cove. This year’s theme, "America goes HOG WILD!" will celebrate the year-long 35th anniversary of the City of Shady Cove incorporation; the "Year of the Pig"; 70th birthday of Spam and will honor WWII veterans as well as salute our service men and women. $2,000 in parade prizes will be awarded at 12 noon.
The Parade line up is on Cleveland St. (north of City Hall) starting at 8 a.m.; pre-judging at 9 a.m.; and the parade begins promptly at 10 a.m. traveling south on the highway to the judges stand at Windmill Square, turning off the highway at Edgewood Dr. to Yew Wood and dispersing on Birch Street, north of Windmill Square. The Shady Cove Police Department and ODOT will be working together to prevent long traffic delays. A courtesy pilot car will escort north and southbound traffic on the northbound lane. A reader board at both ends of the city will alert travelers; delay is expected to be no more than 10 minutes.
An open air market place, watermelon and apple pie eating contests, a *Spam Cook-off judged by Bill Spicer, Insurance Resources; Mike Harms, Wood Products; and Dave Rayburn, Manager, Premier West Bank, Shady Cove Branch. Pony rides, dunk tank; and other activities are included for the entire family Admission is free.
