FD3 picks new fire chief

David K. Hard, current Fire Chief with Klamath County Fire District No. 1 has been offered the position of Jackson County District No. 3 Fire Chief. His appointment comes following a nationwide search and an extensive assessment and interview process.
Chief Hard started his fire service career in 1974 as a cadet with the Sable-Altura Volunteer Fire District in Aurora, Colorado.  In 1978 he was employed by the City of Glendale, Colorado Fire Department, progressing through the ranks of Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Fire Marshal, Training Division Chief, and Assistant Chief, before coming to Ashland in 1999.
Hard served as the Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal at the City of Ashland Fire & Rescue until his appointment to Fire Chief with Klamath County Fire District No. 1 in May 2004.  He holds an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Fire Science Technology, is an Oregon EMT-Paramedic, and an NFPA Fire Officer 2. Hard is also in the final year of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program.  His affiliations include the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association, Oregon Fire Marshals Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, and serves as a member of the State Interoperability Executive Council.
Chief Hard’s anticipated starting date with Jackson County Fire District No. 3 is currently being negotiated.
Fire District No. 3 has had only five fire chiefs in the past 55 years (Richard Krupp, L C "Liz" Lisenbee, William H. Anson, Randall P. Iverson, and Barry Hutchings,who recently resigned due to personal reasons.
