Lost hiker rescued on Mt. McLoughlin

Sunday, Aug. 26 at approximately 6:20 p.m., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Division was notified of a lost hiker on Mt. McLoughlin.
The hiker, Michael Hughes, 21, currently resides in the Medford after moving there from San Jose, Calif. He left to hike the trail up the mountain around 9:30 a.m. While walking down the mountain, he became disoriented and lost. He used his cell phone to call 911.
A helicopter responded to the area and was able to locate Hughes because he was talking to deputies on his phone. The deputies were able to guide the helicopter to his location. The pilot was then able to direct Hughes to a waiting search and rescue team on Hwy. 140 near milepost 32.
Hughes had run out of drinking water and was dressed only in jeans a short sleeve search. He was found  in good condition and was returned to hie vehicle.
