Animals blessed

The "Blessing of Animals" will take place at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church on Sunday October 28 at 9:30 a.m. This event in honor of St. Francis of Assisi is an annual celebration in many congregations around the world. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals.
Years ago, farmers would bring a sheep or other animal to get a blessing for the well-being of the whole flock or herd. In some parts of the world this practice may still exist.
St. Martin’s has enjoyed the presence of iguanas, ponies, dogs, cats and many other animals over the years.
Reverend Mary Piper of St. Martin’s will officiate in the comforting service. All animals and their owners are welcome to participate. The church is located at 95 Cleveland Street in Shady Cove. For more information call 878-2166.
