White City seeks activity coordinator

Three organizations based in White City are collaborating to search for a person to become the first Community Activity Coordinator.  Since the Youth Against Drugs grant was not funded for another year White City has lost a position previously filled by an employee from the YMCA.  Each year the grant money made it possible to have someone from the YMCA staff work with the youth in the White City area.

During the past two years this employee worked with families and
children.  She was responsible for starting movies in the Burns Park,
chaired the Memorial Day Parade, and the Family Fun Day.  Now that the
position is no longer restricted by the parameters of the grant the
organizations hope to increase the activities and the range of
recipients.  The plan is to offer programs similar to those offered by
a parks and recreation department.
Since White City is
unincorporated there is  no Parks and Recreation Department which means
there is no way to fund this position.  To fill the gap the Boards of
the White City Community Improvement Association, the White City
Charitable Foundation, and the Cascade Community Pool have agreed to
support this project.  In addition to the annual events scheduled in
White City they are hoping the person filling this position will add
more activities for children after school, create some activities for
seniors, increase family activities, and assume some of the supervision
at the Cascade Community Pool.

The person who fills
this position will be expected to fund raise through grant writing and
networking with businesses to provide the financing for the various
programs.  We are looking for someone flexible, energetic, and creative
who likes working with people of all ages.  The working hours will be
flexible according to the events in progress with a goal of averaging
at least 30 hours a week.  Salary will be based on experience and
qualifications.

 Anyone interested in applying for
this position can e-mail their resume to ejreich@clearwire.net or mail
their resume to Community Activities Coordinator, PO Box 2796, White
City, OR 97503.

Once someone is hired the people in White
City should see an increase in the activities available for children,
families, and seniors.  Look for future announcements of upcoming
events in the Upper Rogue Independent, the White City School
newspapers, and the Cascade Community Pool Newsletter.
