Wilburn K. Dodd

Wilburn K. Dodd, 85, of Trail, died Sept. 29, 2007 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
He was born May 7, 1922 in Maumee, Ark. And was raised in and round Yellville. During WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in England during the German bombing blitz, as well as Sicily, Normandy, Naples, Germany, Northern France and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 5, 1945 at Camp Chaffee, Ark.
Soon after his discharge he began sailing in the U.S. Merchant Marines with the Seafarers’ Int. Union and sailed during Vietnam. After leaving the Merchant Marines, he held various jobs and jointly owned 315 acres in Queensland, Australia for about 20 years. He was self-sufficient and could live off the land. He was an excellent cook, maintained a beautiful garden and had a knack for canning. He touched the lives of many.
He is survived by four siblings; Gladys Wood, of College Place, Wash., Betha "Katie" McGinty, formerly of Trail; Flora Mae Stalling of Hurst, Texas and Joe Dodd of Vanderpool, Texas and  his long-time companion, Marion Vroman of Medford. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
