George J. Fredenburg

George John Fredenburg, 90, of Sams Valley, died Dec. 27, 2007 at Farmington Square in Medford.

He was born July 12, 1917, in Sams Valley to John Lewis and Hazel Clark (Silver) Fredenburg, on the family homestead that his grandparents built.

His family were some of the early settlers in that area. He often found arrowheads while tilling his fields. He tended his cattle and alfalfa fields until he was 85 years old. He was a simple man with simple needs.

Mr. Fredenburg enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1941 and flew in a B24 as an aerial engineer in World War II. He was decorated with the Philippine Liberation medal, the Bronze Service Star, Asiatic Pacific Service medal, Victory medal and American Defense Service medal.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Elsie Payne, and a sister, Barbara King. Survivors include a sister, Jean Patton of Medford.

The funeral service for Mr. Fredenburg is Jan. 2 at Memory Gardens Chapel with interment in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.
