Prospect contract settlement

Prospect School District and the licensed staff reached a one year contract agreement after a short negotiation. Teachers will received two percent increase to the base and a 3.1 percent step increase, for a total of 5.1 increase. Insurance is capped at $996, which is an increase of $50 to the current cap. Supt. Don Alexander said rates when the state pool begins in October remain an unknown factor.
The $57,000 school improvement resolution was approved. It will be used for pre-school and to improve the vocational education building by updating the electrical system. Other uses for the money will include Friday school, after school and summer school programs.
The 2008-09 calendar was approved. Teachers will report Aug. 25 with students arriving the following Monday. The holiday break will be Dec. 18- Jan. 5 with school ending on June 4, 2009.
The Jan. 4 storm caused school closure on Monday, Jan. 8 and two hour delays on Jan. 8 and 9. As of Wednesday, Jan. 16, Alexander said there was still about a foot of snow in the area.
