EPHS hosts district wrestling, Feb. 9

In a replay of the Comets defeat of the Eagle wrestling team at Eagle Point earlier this season, the Crater Comets won their home match 36-18. There were some major differences from the previous match-up. In the previous meet Eagle Point had several forfeits and falls, allowing the Crater team to easily lead the Eagles. Thursday’s match proved to be a much more technical and exciting series of decisions.
Eagle Point won five matches and lost three by just a point. Kevin Leonardo, Blake Platt, Matt Wilson broke in some late momentum for the Eagles with three exciting matches, especially the close match between Matt Wilson and Tyler Winner. Two other wins were by Robby Mannenbach, looking to recover from the December loss to Crater, and Johnathan Platt rounding out the night’s action. Platt is lost for the season as he suffered separated ribs.  Neither Platt or Eagle Point needed this setback as they look forward to the district tourney this Saturday.
Eagle Point host the district meet which begins at 11 a.m. Finals are scheduled for 6 p.m. Teams will include Crater, Ashland, Mazama and Klamath Union as well as Eagle Point.
