Lady Eagles open softball season with three victories

On Thursday March 13th the Lady Eagles Varsity Softball team opened the 2008 season with a 6-1 victory over the North Medford Black Tornado. The Eagles struck first scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and 3 more in the second. The Lady Eagles tacked on 1 more in the 4th to lead 6-0. The Black Tornado scored their only run in the 6th inning. Pitcher Karlie Stephens closed out the victory with a 1-2-3  7th inning for the victory.

The
Lady Eagles game against North Valley was rained out on Frid, March 14,
and rescheduled for April 1. The Lady Eagles hosted Henley on Tuesday
March 18th and ran their record to 2-0, with a 3-0 victory over the
visiting Hornets. The game was scoreless through 4 innings. The Lady
Eagles scored all three of their runs the bottom half of the 5th
inning. Samantha DeVaughn led off the 5th with a single to center
field. Cheree Dale moved DeVaughn to 2nd base with a bunt and was safe
at 1st when the Hornets attempted unsuccessfully to get DeVaughn at
2nd. Chloe Hansen followed with a single to load the bases. After 2
outs Jenny Fernandes cleared the bases with a double to the
left-centerfield gap. Karlie Stephens retired 6 of 7 Henley hitters in
the 6th and 7th innings to close out the victory.

The
Lady Eagles JV opened the season with a 9-2 loss to the North Medford
Black Tornado. On Saturday March 15th, the JV’s hosted the Butte Falls
Varsity in a doubleheader splitting 2 games winning the first 6-1 and
losing the 2nd game by 10-9 count. On Tuesday March 18th, the JV’s
evened their season record at 2-2 with a 12-2 victory over the Henley
Hornets.
