Rain or shine, the 8th annual Daffodil Daze Festival is set for Saturday, March 22 , from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Shady Cove. Faithful, bright yellow daffodils are popping up everywhere, with more than a million bright blooms reaching their peak along the banks, meadows and into the woods on the 2-mile country road, affectionately known in the springtime as Daffodil Hill.
The day-long "community-wide" festival includes the traditional shuttle tour up Daffodil Hill. Passengers are invited to "hop on board" either the nostalgic Daffodil Express Trolley, or Daffy Bus to The Oaks Pond; getting there is half the fun. The Shuttle Station is located at Windmill Square, Hwy 62, adjacent to Two Pines Smokehouse. A $2 donation is suggested; children under 10 ride free with an adult. Convenient free parking across Highway 62, in Windmill Square’s "overflow" parking lot.
Because of the increasing impact of cars at the top of Daffodil Hill,
only shuttles and groups with advance reservations may continue to The
Oaks Pond area. Those taking a "self-guided tour" (in their own
vehicles) MUST turn around at The Big Oak Tree to prevent congestion
at the pond; signs will direct travelers to Daffodil Hill and the
designated turn around area. (Directions: Hwy 62 to Rogue River
Drive, short distance to Sawyer Road, right turn to Daffodil Hill).
artists and original crafts will set up at Windmill Square (next to the
Trolley Station) and at The Shady Cove Grange Hall, off Hwy 62 on
Chaparell. Shuttles will also stop at the Upper Rogue Community Center
"Spring Bazaar", Crater Lake Cellars, and participating
Merchants. In the block north of Two Pines, a GIANT Estate Sale with
many fine pieces of art and furnishings will be open for sale (from 10
a.m. to 6 p.m.). Convenient parking and shuttle stops at all festival
While there will be no organized 1K Walk up
Daffodil Hill (on Sunday), there will be a"Daffy Spring Hat Walk"(on
Saturday) throughout the Village of Shady Cove.. Visitors of all
ages, including costumed pets, are encouraged to show off their
decorated bonnets, hats, caps, and parasols (from elegant to goofy).
