Varsity girls won four of six games last week

On Saturday, March 22, the Lady Eagles hosted the Marshfield Pirates in a non-league double header. The Eagles prevailed in both games by scores of 6-1, 6-3 to run their record to 4-0 on the season.
In the first game Marshfield took an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd on a couple of base hits and an error. The Eagles took command for good in the 3rd when they scored 4 runs with 2 outs.

Katie Jolliffe reached on an error and consecutive singles by Jen
Fernandes, Karlie Stephens, Ashley Josephson, and Samantha DeVaughn
plated 4 runs. The Eagles added solo runs in the 4th on an RBI single
by Katie Jolliffe, and in the 6th on a solo home run by Ashley

Karlie Stephens pitched 7 innings with 0 runs, 0 errors, 3 hits, 15
strike outs, and no walks.
In the second game the Eagles
trailed 3-1 entering the 3rd inning as the Pirates scored 3 runs on
some timely hitting on 2 Eagle Point errors. The Eagles took the lead
for good with 3 runs of their own in the 3rd inning. The Eagles tacked
on 2 more runs in the 4th to put the game away.
Chloe Hanson
came into the game in the third inning as relief of Ashley Josephson
and pitched 5 innings of solid relief giving up 0 runs on 1 hit while
striking out 8 and walking 2 hitters.

Eagles traveled to The Dalles for a tournament on Monday and Tuesday
March 24 and 25. The round robin format featured four 5A, playoff teams
from 2007 and one 6A playoff team.
Day one was less than
kind to the Eagles as they dropped a 10-0 game to 6A Barlow and let a
2-0 lead slip away in the late innings to drop a 5-2 decision to The
Dalles. Samantha DeVaughn drove in both Eagle Point runs with a 2 out
single in the 4th inning.
On Tuesday the Eagles found
themselves trailing 6-0 to Corvallis after three innings. The Eagles
scratched out a single run in the 5th as MacKenzie Re scored on an
error. The Eagles tallied 5 runs in the 6th inning.
Jolliffe led off with a single and Chloe Hanson drove her home with a
hit. Karlie Stephens followed Hanson with a 2 run home run. Ashley
Josephson followed Stephen’s blast with a double to the fence,
Josephson scored on a single by MacKenzie Re, and Re was plated by
Cheree Dales’ double to tie the score.
The two teams went to
the international tie breaker rules in the 9th inning, with each team
scoring a single run. The Eagles put the game away with two runs in the
10th. As Ashley Josephson drove in Karlie Stephens with a single and
scored on a sacrifice fly by Samantha DeVaughn. Stephens set down the
side in the bottom of the 10th to seal the win. Stephens picked up the
win in relief of Jamie Paxton, pitching 7 1/3 innings striking out 8,
walking 0.

In the
second game the Eagles played Sherwood a team they bested in the state
quarter finals in 2007. The Eagles again came out on top by a 2-1
score. The Eagles scored 2 runs in the 1st inning on a double by Katie
Jolliffe and a 2 run home run by Ashley Josephson. Solid defense and
stellar pitching sealed the deal.
Chloe Hanson threw the
first 4 innings giving up 1 hit, 0 runs, striking out 5, and walking
only one. Karlie Stephens earned the save in relief, pitching 3 innings
giving up 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 6 and walking only 1.
Eagles are now 6-2 on the season. They were scheduled to host South
Umpqua in a non-league double header on Saturday March 29.
