Lady Eagles open conference with split

The Lady Eagles opened conference play Saturday April 5th at Crater. The Eagles split the doubleheader losing 6-1 in the first game and winning game 2 by a 7-4 count in eight innings.
In game one the Eagles trailed from the outset, and were their own worst enemy by committing a season high of six errors and leaving eleven runners on base, eight of those in scoring position. Katie Jolliffe and Jamie Paxton had 2 hits each and Samantha DeVaughn drove in the lone Eagle run with a 3rd inning single.

In game two the Eagles had to battle from behind as Crater scored 3
runs in the 1st inning, with the big blow being Amanda Bates’ 2 run
home run. The Eagles cut the Comet lead to one with a pair of 3rd
inning runs. Chloe Hanson and Katie Jolliffe hit back to back doubles,
and Karlie Stephens drove home Jolliffe with a sacrifice fly. Crater
tallied a single run in the 5th to make the score 4-2 in favor of
Crater. The Eagles evened the score in the 7th. Jamie Paxton hit a
double and Cheree Dale drove her home with a single.
Desavedo tied the game, scoring on a Crater error as a runner for Dale.
In the top of the 8th the Eagles struck for three runs. Jen Fernandes
reached base on a dropped third strike, Karlie Stephens and Ashley
Josephson walked to load the bases. After a forced out at the plate,
Jamie Paxton ripped a double to left clearing the bases. Jamie Paxton
was 3-3 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s. Katie Jolliffe and Chloe Hanson
each had a double. Karlie Stephens earned the pitching victory with 3
shut out innings in relief of Hanson. The 2nd game victory was the
Eagles first conference win against the Comets since 1997.
