Saturday March 29, the Lady Eagles hosted the South Umpqua Lancers. Weather conditions limited us to the use of one field, thus we were able to play one J.V. and one Varsity game. The J.V. played first, winning by a 6-1 count running their record to 5-2.
The Varsity won an exciting game against the 10th ranked 4A Lancers, 3-2 in 9 innings. The Eagles trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the 7th inning, but rallied to tie the score on singles by Keyonna Kayser and Ariel Arnspriger and two South Umpqua throwing errors. International tie breaker rules were used in the 8th inning with neither team finding a way to score. Karlie Stephens and the Eagle defense held the Lancers scoreless in the top of the 9th. The Eagles were able to push across the winning run in the bottom half of the inning when Cheree Dale drove home Ashley Josephson from 3rd base with a ground out to the right side.. No Eagles player had more than one hit on the day. Karlie Stephens gave up 4 hits, one earned run, and struck out a season high 19 hitters, without walking a single hitter. The Eagles have produced a 7-2 record thus far on the season.
