Harleys, vet cyclists part of WC Memorial Day

Memorial Day in White City promises to be a major event this year. Kristin Howell, the events director hired by White City Charitable Foundation, Cascade Pool and White City Community Improvement Association, has been working to make this day a special one for many. Activities for the day are sponsored by the White City Charitable Foundation.
Senator Gordon Smith will be the guest speaker at the Eagle Point National Cemetery ceremony. This year the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association (OVMA) will be at the ceremony, which runs from 11-12 n. Following that, the cyclists will meet in front of the sheriff’s office in White City to be part of the White City Memorial Day Parade. According to Howell, there could be as many as 300 veteran cyclists. While the parade is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., that will depend on everyone getting from the cemetery to the Ave. C starting point. Free lunch and beverages will be served at the starting point for the parade participants.
The 1.9 mile long parade will end at the Community Health Center, Division Rd. and Ave. H.
Numerous activities will begin at Burns Park at 11 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. There will be a number of booths with games and crafts. Several music groups, including the Old Time Fiddlers,  will take center stage during the afternoon. Howell said there will be a display of Harley’s at the Cascade Pool. Again, she said there could be up to 300 bikes. After the parade there will be a skateboard demonstration.
