Former star EPHS athlete named new soccer coach

EPHS Principal Allen Barber announced last week that Stephanie (Lucas) Pogue will be joining the staff as a health and physical education teacher beginning in the 08/09 school year.
"Stephanie will also assume the responsibilities of head girl’s soccer coach at Eagle Point High School," said Barber. "Stephanie comes to us with a history of excellence as a "standout" soccer star at Eagle Point High School and a three year soccer player at Western Oregon University where she played in one of the most competitive NCAA Division II soccer conferences," said Barber. " We are very excited about her arrival and are pleased to welcome home a distinguished Eagle Point alumni."
Pogue will get some assistance from Phil Ortega and Dr. Leigh Lenz of Lenz Chiropractic in Eagle Point,
She is the third Eagle Point High School graduate to be hired as a head coach for the coming year. Others are Jacob Schauffler, football, and Rob Kleker for volleyball. In addition, Rob Cowden, also an EPHS graduate, has been on the staff for several years and is the head baseball coach.
While at Eagle Point, Pogue earned a Gold Card, signifying she received 12 letters. She was a National Student Athlete, Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete winner, and received OSAA awards in soccer, basketball and track. She graduated in 2000.
Pogue has been teaching health at District 9  middle schools for the last two years. She and her husband, Evan Pogue, also a Class of 2000  EPHS graduate, have an eight-month old son, Gavin. She is the daughter of Chris and Teresa Lucas.
