James Frank Brookins

James Frank Brookins, 83, of Eagle Point, died June 17, 2008.
The memorial service was held at the Eagle Point National Cemetery on Monday, June 23 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rick Cook of the VFW Post 6184, Brownsboro Community Church officiating.
Mr. Brookins was born on Mar. 5, 1925 in San Francisco, Calif. to Harry and Irene Brookins. He served in the U.S. Navy.
On May 2, 1953, he married Anna Palembas in Inglewood, Calif. They moved to Eagle Point in August of 1966. He was a career mechanic. James’ hobbies included snowmobiling, antique cars and fishing.
He was a member of the VFW Eagle Point Post 6184, Rogue Snowmobile Club, Eagle Point Grange and the Kaizer Club.
He was a very familiar figure to thousands of Eagle Point children at Christmas as the elf  when Santa visited following the traditional lighting of the community Christmas tree. He could always be counted on to help the VFW and the community, including filling in from time to time as a courier at the Upper Rogue Independent.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Anna, sons, Thomas J. and Gary L; four grandchildren, Chelsa Brookins of Eagle Point, Whitney Brookins DeWolf of Beaverton., Emily Brookins of Central Point and Rachell Brookins of Corvallis. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harry and Roy.
