The 10th annual Shady Cove Open will be held at the Eagle Point Golf Club on Saturday, Aug. 16. Over $1,060,000 prizes are possible in this benefit event. The registration deadline is Aug. 3. Entry fees are $110 per person.
The event began strictly as a way to raise money to provide winter coats for Shady Cove-Elk Trail students who might otherwise not have them. And, appropriately enough, it was called the Shady Cove Invitational Coats for Kids. That group has incorporated and is a non-profit group under the name of Upper Rogue Action Team.
Last year they gave away 150 winter coats, 200 pair of shoes, funded an after school reading tutorial program and helped a family whose child has leukemia. And, they help children in Butte Falls and Prospect as well as Shady and Elk Trail.
In the last 10 years, they have given 1,500 coats, 30 shoes, playground equipment, money for families at Christmas, sent 400 children to summer camp, and most recently, funded the reading program and assisted the family that has an ill child.
While doing so many good things, this is a group that truly enjoys their game. Sign up is at 7 a.m. with the 18-hole four-person scramble getting underway at 8:30.
