Jerald Verne Ferguson

Jerald Verne (Jerry) Ferguson, 67, of Butte Falls, died Aug. 3, 2008 at his home.
Mr. Ferguson was born Aug. 5, 1940, in Oregon City, Ore., to Charles Gatlin and Theresa Vena (Minor) Ferguson.            
He graduated from Butte Falls High School in 1959 where he participated in all school activities including baseball and basketball. He attended Southern Oregon College from 1959 to 1960.

He served in the military and was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. and
Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. He was a cook and continued to enjoy cooking for
the family after his tour of service ended.
Mr. Ferguson married Linda Lou Webster on June 9, 1962 in Reno, NV. She preceded him in death in 2002.
worked the U.S. Forest Service in the Butte Falls Ranger District
clearing trails until he was hired by Medford Corporation in 1962. He
started as a choker setter, then became a cat skinner, a log scaler and
eventually a timber faller, In 1992, he attended truck driving school
and then worked for Ron Hailicka, Inc. driving a dump truck until he
retired in 2006.   
Mr. Ferguson was an active member of
the Butte Falls community. He served on the city council and for 12
years he was a member of the District 91 School Board. He enjoyed
camping and hunting. His favorite hobby was woodcarving and the family
proudly displays many of his creations.
He is survived by
two sons, Brent Louis and Jared Davis, both of Butte Falls; a sister,
Charleen Brown, also of Butte Falls; a brother, David Ferguson, of
Bend, four granddaughters, two step-grandchildren, all of Butte Falls.
He was preceded in death by Linda, his wife of 40 years, and his
The service for Mr. Ferguson was held Saturday,
Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Butte Falls Community Bible Church. Interment
was at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Contributions may be made in Mr.
Ferguson’s honor to the butte Falls Fire Department, P.O. Box 268,
