James William “Billy” Grieve, 75, of Prospect, died Aug. 28, 2008.
The Grieve family was already established in Prospect when
Mr. Grieve’s family moved there.
His father inherited the Prospect Hotel. Mr. Grieve grew up
in Prospect and went to school there. He joined the Navy during the Korean War.
He met his future wife, Harriet Coleen “Tommie” Hamlin when
she and her mother came to Prospect to help her brother run the café. They were married when Mr. Grieve finished
his tour in the Navy. They moved to Oklahoma for a few years where he went to a
Mr. Grieve operated a road grader for various logging
companies. He was also employed by the Oregon State Highway Department.
He joined the Masons in 1952 and reached the rank of Master
Mason. He was a member of the Shady Cove Lodge.
He and his wife raised a family of five sons; Chris (Beth),
Marc and Matt (Vicki) of Prospect, Mike (Gayle) of Mulino, Ore. and Mac (Joy)
of Springfield, Ore.
In addition to his sons, he is survived by a brother, Kern
E. Grieve (Charlotte) of Trail and a sister, Janet M. Grieve Millbank, of
Medford, seven grandchildren and nine-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2002 and
granddaughter, Megan Grieve Zyback in 2007;
and a much-loved brother, Scott Grieve.
