Top 10 finish for VanDyke in Cross Country meet

Eagle Point Cross Country had their first meet Sept. 11 in
Klamath Falls. This was the Pre‑District meet for the Southern Sky Conference.
Eagle Point competed against Ashland, Klamath Union, Mazama, and Crater.
Klamath Union hosted this event at Moore Park.

The conditions were very good for this challenging and hilly
course. Girls Varsity ran first and two Eagle Point girls competed in this
event. They were senior Ashley Sankey and freshman Chloe Hanks. Sankey ran well
and was holding 2nd place the first part of the race, but about mid‑way through
she rolled her ankle putting her out of contention. She finished with a time of
29:20. Hanks ran well with her steady pace and strong determination. She
finished with a time of 27:50.

Leading  Eagle Point varsity boys  with a top 10 finish was Sophomore Tyler Van
Dyke with a time of 18:23. This is Tyler’s first year in cross country. He did
very well and he will be someone to watch as the season progresses. Finishing
next with a time of 20:09 was senior Peter Bilden, he finished 24th. Junior
Cody Warren finished 26th with a time of 21:08. Sophomore Tyler Johnson
finished 27th with a time of 21:10. Junior Joey Logan finished 28th with a time
of 21:12. Freshman Keifer Pehowic finished with a time of 22:30. Junior Cody
Morris finished with a time of 22:31. Senior Michael Harvey finished with a
time 27:24. Michael Hatfield did not compete due to an injury.

"I am very encouraged with this fine team of athletes. We
have a lot of work ahead of us, but I believe as the season goes on we will see
all of our runners times go down as they focus on the upcoming events.," said
Coach Al Logan. "This was a good meet for us. It gave us a chance to see our
competition and what we need to do for our District meet in late October. I
feel that this is going to be an exciting year for Eagle Point Cross Country".

The next meet is at Mazama High School on Sept. 16.
