Adopt a soldier program wants names to share

Three local residents want to put together a program to remember those serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas of the world. One of the threesome, Pauline Eklund, has done this elsewhere and it has been well received.
The first step in the program is for Eklund to receive the name and address, and a picture if one is available, of a person who could use some extra support, especially at holiday time. At the same time, Eklund wants names of people who want to adopt a soldier.
Eklund and her two helpers, Joe Miller and Clancy Deong, have no responsibility other than to pass along the names of soldiers submitted to them and to receive names of those willing to adopt.
For the holidays, it will be important to get started on the program quickly. Eklund said the flat rate for packages for military is $9.80 for a regular size box and $10.95 for large boxes.
She is hoping that church groups, classrooms, businesses and families will join in the program. She asks that those participating be 18 years of age or older.
