The 22nd annual Scholarship Dessert is Thursday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. This is the only event of its kind in the Upper Rogue. While there are many fund raising projects in the Upper Rogue, this one is unique.
Hostesses invite six or eight guests per table. The hostess provides dessert, table service and a centerpiece. Members of the National Honor Society serve coffee or tea. While some bring dishes or china and fine linens, many find Hallmark’s finest most appropriate. Some buy a centerpiece, others make a centerpiece or bring something special from home.
One of the highlights of the event actually begins before the formal opening as people stroll through the cafeteria to see the many festive tables.
This year Blake Cam will be the guest speaker. Cam is a 2001 graduate of Eagle Point High School and of Willamette University. He is a patrol officer for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. Music will be provided by students of Terri Steinhorst.
Before the evening concludes, hostesses will pass donation envelopes to everyone at their table. Funds are deposited with the Oregon Community Foundation and each year a portion of the interest goes to fund scholarships. Last year, 14 scholarships were given and $10,000 was raised at the dessert.
