SCMS Lady Wolverines

The Shady Cove Middle School girls 6th grade basketball team started off their
season with tenacity, with a 26-10 victory over Butte Falls, Thursday, Jan. 15.  The team,
coached by Fred Alexander, successfully put their plays into action and played
aggressively, earning many turnovers and committing only 4 fouls.

Kiana Sweem and Brenna Blankenship led the scoring with 10 and 8
points.  Miranda Kaiser sunk 2 baskets, Gina Rusnick and Brittany
Zomerdyk each scored 1 field goal. 
Posts Brenna Blankenship and Miranda Kaiser anchored the paint, allowing
only 10 points.  Kiana Sweem and Anna Evans called the plays at point guard, and
Tianna Alexander, Lisa Davis, Gina Rusnick, Brittany Zomerdyk, and Hanna Carnes
played well at wing.  Bethany Person also plays for the team, but was out sick.
Butte Falls played a hard fought game, with no fouls.  The Lady Wolverines
displayed great sportsmanship and fair play, and executed their plays with
precision.  The Shady Cove Wolverines take to the road in their next game at New
Hope in Grants Pass Wednesday at 5pm.
