Turnovers defeat Eagles

On Tuesday Jan. 6 the Eagles traveled to Ashland to open the 2009 Southern Sky Conference season. The Grizzly’s were picked by league coaches to repeat as conference champions. The Grizzly’s got off to a quick start, but the Eagles battles back to trail by six points with 2 minutes remaining in the first half. Ashland then finished the half with a 10-2 run to lead 41-27 at the half.
Needing to get off to a strong start in the second half the Eagles showed signs of life early but were undone by 11 turnovers for the quarter and 25 for the game. The inability to take care of the ball not only stalled the Eagles offense, but led to many easy transition hoops for Ashland. The Grizzly’s prevailed 79-51. Logan Winter put up 21 points to lead the Eagles and Austin Rowley chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds, to help the Eagles cause.
