Daffodil Daze have busy weekend, Mar. 21-22

The 9th annual "Daffodil Daze Festival" is scheduled to kick off the daffodil season, Saturday, Mar. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Shady Cove.  On Sunday, Mar. 22, The Daffodil Daze 1K Community FUN Walk starts at 1p.m. The walk is organized by Kathleen Collins, River Plaza Fitness Center.

While organizers cannot predict Mother Nature and her weather plans,
traditionally, from mid-March thru the end of April, faithful, bright
yellow daffodils will bloom on Sawyer Road, known in the springtime as
"Daffodil Hill".  The 1.5 mile scenic country road is off Rogue River
Drive, just a short distance from the Village of Shady Cove.  Daffodil
Hill is open to the public for "self-guided drives" anytime during this
blooming season.  Please drive carefully and watch out for walkers,
especially during the Sunday Community FUN Walk.   Bring your camera.

This
year, volunteers from various organizations have joined together to
present a full-scale Daffodil Daze celebration and to salute the 150th
anniversary of Oregon statehood.
Daffodil Banners, hung by the
Shady Cove Boosters, will line Shady Cove’s "Main Street" (Highway 62)
while gardens and shop windows blossom with the first flower of spring.

Fire
District #4 volunteer & support group will participate as "Daffodil
Greeters".  A "Daffy Hat Parade" is set for Saturday, on "Main Street"
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Edgewater Inn, Rogue River RV Park and Miguel’s
Mexican Restaurant, have packaged a "Spring FiestaGet-a-way" to Shady
Cove; good thru spring 2009.

Upper Rogue Community Center vans
will join the "Daffy Express" for Saturday tours of Daffodil Hill, from
10 a.m. to last departure at 3 p.m.  To prevent long waiting lines for
the 26 passenger trolley, advance reservations must be made. Call:  ALL
ABOARD, LLC at (541-878-3626).

Shuttles and authorized vans
and coaches traveling Daffodil Hill may continue beyond The Big Oak
Tree "turn around" sign.  However, self-guided vehicles must turn
around at the posted sign to prevent congestion.  A $2 donation helps
fund shuttle and festival expenses.

Have your picture taken
with the "Shady Chick" mascot, or sing and dance with "The Village
People".  A 1 p.m. Saturday puppet show will be staged at Books ‘n
More.

Festival music, antique cars, the Oregon National
Guard race car and humvee, will be displayed in the Windmill Square
parking lot. Art, and original crafts will be available in tents at the
Square and throughout Shady Cove.

 A Spring buffet
presented by Carlotta’s Catering will be featured in Two Pines’
Carlotta’s Room, from 10 am to 2 pm Saturday; reservations are required
for groups of six or more – call Carol at: 821-4481. Art will be on
display Saturday and Sunday for show and sale.

The Daffodil
Daze Festival is sponsored by the Shady Cove Business Association and
Upper Rogue Regional Tourism Alliance (URRTA).
