Edna Kristine (Erickson) Brandt

Edna Kristine (Erickson) Brandt, 89, of Eagle Point, died April 13, 2009 at her home.
She was born in St. Paul, Minn., on Aug. 7, 1919, to Gustaf Erickson, from Sweden, and Caroline (Jacobsen) Erickson, from Norway. She was the third of six children. She graduated from Johnson High School in St. Paul, in 1938. In 1940, he was Queen of the St. Paul Harvest Festival and also chosen as the Royal Princess of the St. Paul Winter Sports Festival. She moved to Los Angeles and married Oscar Brandt on Oct. 19, 1941, having met him in 1939. They were married for 67 years.
They lived in Los Angeles for 16 years, moving to Saratoga, Calif. where they spent 27 years and then to Grass Valley, Calif. for 17 years, finally moving to Eagle Point for the last five years.
Mrs. Brandt was an ardent member of the Sons of Norway, an active member of the Cascade Community Pool in White City and active in the Eagle Point Women’s Club. Over the years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and organist for the Lutheran church they attended. She did volunteer work for many charitable organizations in the San Francisco Bay area.
She is survived by her husband, Oscar; daughter, Barbara Schmaltz (Larry) of Eagle Point; sons, John (Laurie) of Los Gatos, Calif., and Richard (Artis) of Billings, Mont., six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Her son, David, preceded her in death in 1982.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Apr. 26, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Eagle Point. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the local Cancer Society. Her final resting place will be the family nitch at Oak Hill Cemetery, San Jose, Calif.
She was highly respected and deeply moved by her husband, children, grandchildren and all those who knew her.
