Butte Falls students can get credits at RCC

Following are highlights of the May 11 Butte Falls School District Board of Directors meeting:
The district’s state score in reading was 55.8% while math was 54% at or above the state benchmark. The program, Love and Logic, will be adopted by the district, according to Superintendent Tim Sweeney.  He said the district has hired an expert from Portland to help with curriculum alignment.
Butte Falls students have opportunity to obtain RCC credit and four students will finish the first year of their program this spring. Sweeney said 25 students have signed up for the fall term.
Principal coffee dates at the site council are May 21 and 28, and June 11 from 5-6:30 p.m.
Despite rumors, the schedule for next year has not been developed. However, school will be dismissed at 1 p.m. on May 27 to allow the staff to meet to prepare the schedule. And, despite economic hard times, Sweeney said kindergarten would be offered as a full day program for the coming school year.
The budget committee approved the budget.
