Paula Assali

Paula Assali, 60, died at home on May 16, 2009 from the effects of endometrial cancer.
    
She was born to Peter and Pauline Batt in Stockton, Calif. on June 26, 1948. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Stockton in 1966 and from San Francisco State University in 1971.
 

She spent the last 10 years in extensive volunteer work with Food &
Friends Meals on Wheels; English as a Second Language instruction;
SMART program and various food banks, especially that of First
Presbyterian Church of Medford.
   
She was especially active
with Friends of the Medford Library bookstore, where she was part
manager and where she enjoyed serving the community and library and
working with wonderful volunteers.
   
Mrs. Assali was also
involved with Friendship Force of Southern Oregon and hosted travelers
from around the world. She was a creative quilter, lifelong reader and
avid traveler.
   
She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob);
daughter, Emily; son, Joshua (Geneva) ; two grandchildren; a brother,
Edward, sister, Barbara and sister-on-law, Leni.
   
The memorial service for Mrs. Assali will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6 at First Presbyterian Church of Medford, 85 S. Holly.
   
In
lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to Friends of the
Medford Public Library, 205 S. Central Ave., Medford, OR or First
Presbyterian Church of Medford Memorial Fund, 85 S. Holly St., Medford,
OR 97501.
