The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a missing person case involving Christopher Bateman.

Bateman was last seen in the Trail area on May 17. His vehicle, a white
Toyota pick-up truck, was located on May 24 by a U.S. Forest Service
employee on Forest Service land in Douglas County, approximately 35
miles north of Tiller. The vehicle was located approximately 100 feet
from a dirt roadway over an embankment. A two day search of the area by
Douglas County Search and Rescue failed to turn up any sign of Bateman.
There was no indication that  Bateman was in the truck when it went
over the embankment, nor were there any indications of foul play. To
further puzzle investigators, Bateman’s dog, a chocolate lab, was
located wandering on Jackson Creek Rd. in Douglas County, approximately
25 miles from where the truck was recovered.

There is
nothing to indicate that Bateman is intentionally missing, but there
are no indications that he met with foul play. Bateman’s residence has
been searched and investigators are talking with friends and family in
an attempt to find him.
