Upper Rogue residents who travel to other parts of the Rogue Valley have two Park & Ride facilities available to arrange their commute trips. Park & Ride lots provide free parking for commuters who carpool or ride the bus. The Rogue Valley Transportation District has two lots in White City, one at the north entrance to the VA Dom, and one just north of the bus shelter at Cascade Shopping Center.
RVTD’s senior planner Paige Townsend says the Park & Ride lots, which have been in place for years, are not widely known. “For commuters, they’re the best kept secret in White City,” says Townsend. As part of its annual Try Transit Week activities, RVTD is working to draw attention to these resources. The lots are available every day, but commuters who park and ride between 6:30 and 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 will get a free bus ride and a free coffee as well by visiting the RVTD table on site. Townsend says, “We’re hoping to get people over the hurdle of unfamiliarity. We often hear from new riders that once they take that first bus ride, the processes immediately becomes simple.”
RVTD also has a tool to help commuters find carpool partners. The website CarpoolMatchNW.org connects drivers and riders making similar trips. RVTD’s Park & Ride lots provide a meeting place for carpoolers as well as bus riders.
RVTD buses operate Monday through Friday. The Route 60 bus, which connects White City and Medford, runs every half hour. The first southbound departure from Cascade Shopping Center is 5:45am, and the last bus drops off there at 7:00pm every evening. Commuters can learn more at RVTD’s website, www.rvtd.org, or by calling 779-2877.
