Samuel Daniel Glass, 78, of Central Point, died Aug. 20, 2009.
Mr. Glass was born Mar. 21, 1931 in Central Point, where he lived his entire life.
He graduated from the old Central Point High School in 1949. He then joined the Marines and served in Japan and Korea. Upon returning from the military, he attended Southern Oregon College and Oregon State University. Returning to the valley from college, he married his wife of 52 years, Betty Eccleston, on Nov. 24, 1956 in Eagle Point. They settled down in the Table Rock area where he made farming his career.
He started farming at the age of 13 for the Nealon Farms. Other than trips to the Oregon coast, you could find Sam in his fields planting or harvesting. He was truly a dedicated farmer and according to friends and associates, “the best in the valley.” The morning of his passing he had been on his John Deere, doing what he loved.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Doug (Tavia) and grandaughter, Sara, of Eagle Point; Steve (Patricia) and grandchildren, Kara and Scooby, of Central Point. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Sylvia Glass, brothers, Claburn and Hugh; and sisters, Ruth and Theada.
The service for Mr. Glass was held Aug. 28 at Conger-Morris Chapel. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Arrangements by Conger-Morris, Medford.
