Georgia June Olney, 95, of Eagle Point, died Sept. 13, 2009 at Eagle Cove Assisted Living. She was the first child of George and Lillian Olney of Thatcher, Arizona. She was born on June 30 1914. She spent most of her formative years in Los Angeles California, where she attended school and later college at UCLA.June was a cheerful and vivacious person with a very infectious personality. She worked hard most of her life and was a teacher at the beauty college in Coos Bay, Oregon, for many years. She lived life to the fullest and found happiness and joy in whatever she did. She has been an Oregonian since 1944 when she moved to Klamath Falls. A few years later she moved to Coos Bay where she resided for the next 45 years. She raised four children; Richard Devlin, Lew Devlin, June Truax and Steven Gerber who preceded her in death. She married Ray Gerig in 1955 and was on her honeymoon until his death in 1996.
June was very active in “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints” and was the piano player and chorister for almost 45 years. She worked in the church genealogical library for two decades researching her family history. June helped many people get started with this arduous task.
She loved helping others and in her later years she spent most of her time doing just that. Her grandchildren and great-grand children loved calling her Granny. She has eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be missed immensely. Grave side services were Sept. 18 at the Phoenix Cemetery, Phoenix, Oregon.
