D9 hires Willamette ESD to guide beginning process for a new school

Jackson County School District #9 and  Willamette Education Service District Project Solutions Group have signed a contract to perform project management services for a new elementary school in or near Eagle Point.

David McKay, director of Project Solutions Group, outlined a three phase process for the board of directors at a workshop last month. The first phase began last week when McKay and several district staff met to discuss needs from classroom to food and transportation for a new elementary school. Among considerations will be location- in or out of Eagle Point. Previous discussion has centered on the old junior high site or the old Glenn D. Hale site but D9 Business Manager Randy Struckmeier said they were viewing the project as a white paper and looking at all possibilities in order to be the best steward for taxpayers.

McKay’s group will evaluate the data received at last week’s meeting, put figures to it and come back to the district in mid-November with data.
The Project Solutions Group will also assist JCD9 in developing an RFP(s) to select a project architect and general contractor.

The fee presented to the board in September fopr Project Solutions Group work was not to exceed $31,900 plus reimbursable expenses established at a maximum of  $5,000.

The district received a settlement of $12 million last year from the 2002 fire that destroyed most of the junior high school.
The Willamette Education Service District is based in Salem.  Its Project Solutions Group (PSG) specializes in providing construction management related services for school districts.  The PSG offers project management, construction management, constructability, and building commissioning services for school districts throughout the State of Oregon.  In the past four years, the Project Solutions Group has successfully managed over $50 million in construction services.
