Dennis Michael McDermott, 65, of Eagle Point, died Oct. 1, 2009.
He was born Jan. 8, 1946 in Kenosha,Wisc., to Walter and Kathryn McDermott. He was the oldest of eight children.
On Mar. 14, 1980, he married Randi in Reno, Nev. Mr. McDermott graduated from California State University at Northridge and worked for more than 27 years for Pacific Bell before retiring in 1991. He and his wife moved to Eagle Point in 2006.
His Catholic faith was a major focus of his life. He was an Eucharistic Minister at the Interfaith Chapel at the Veterans Administration Domiciliary and was RCIA Catechist for more than 20 years instructing new Catholics on their faith. He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at the Festival of Trees and assisted with the Avenue of Flags project, setting our American flags on holidays in Eagle Point.
In addition to his wife, Randi, he is survived by five children; Sean McDermott, of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin McDermott of Aurora, Ill., Kyle McDermott, of Reno, Nev., Adam Smith and Pamela Garner of Newbury Park, Calif; and six grandchildren. Surviving siblings are: Mary Pike of Grants Pass, Maureen Stephenson, of Dallas, Ore., Ryhan, Eileen and Peggy McDermott, all of Medford, and Melissa Ruettgers of Salem. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Patrick.
