The weekend of Dec. 4 and 5 will be a delightful one in Eagle Point. It starts on Friday evening , Dec. 4, with the official lighting of the town’s Christmas tree at Bob Moore Park in downtown Eagle Point. That is followed by the arrival of Santa Claus on his way to the Ashpole Center to talk to each little boy and girl. Each child will get a sock full of goodies and then have the opportunity to pick out a stuffed animal of his or her choice, all free.
Applications for the annual lighting contest in Eagle Point will be available the week of Nov. 23 at the Independent and at city hall. The deadline is Dec. 9. There is a new category this year and that is one called “stealth” where the judges see homes that haven’t entered and select one outstanding in their minds. Judging will be Dec. 12-13 with winners in the Upper Rogue Independent Dec. 18.
The Lions Club and VFW will be at the festivities to supply food and hot beverages.
Saturday, Dec. 5, put the Butte Creek Mill on your must do list. They will be showing how to have a Good Old Fashioned Christmas with chestnuts roasting by the Rogue Dutch Oven Cookers, caroling with the Eagle Point High School choir, hot spiced cider, a display of rare antique toys and Christmas items and lots of sales in the mill and in the antique store.
