Eagle Point High School Theatre Department will present their first production of the 2009-10 season starting Thursday, Nov. 12 when they offer “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Show dates are Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Nov. 12, 13, and 14 and Nov. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. In addition, they will offer a matinee performance on Saturday Nov. 14 and Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. All performances are in the EPHS cafeteria. Adult tickets are $10, seniors $8 and students $5.
Julie Cuppy is in her second year as the director of theatre at EPHS. She also teaches English. Cuppy is a graduate of Southern Oregon University where she received a masters degree in theatre performance. After graduation she spent five years at So. Medford before coming to Eagle Point.
The theatre department received a Carpenter Foundation grant last year which has been used to update and improve lighting and equipment. Cuppy is reaching out to several departments at the high school to form partnerships she believes will be of mutual benefit and will be of greater interest to the community.
Carol Newcomb and her students are sewing costumes for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”
Cuppy has several partnership type events planned. In January, there will be a spaghetti feed and student festival featuring one act plays. In May plans call for the production of “Oklahoma.” The lead is president of the FFA. Cuppy says plans call for FFA exhibits in the lobby the weekend of the production.
Cuppy feels working with other departments will allow greater appreciation of skills and that the theatre students will learn there is much more involved than being an actor. For more information, call Cuppy at 830-6610.
