Serving skills help Cougars to good season

A very young but talented Lady Cougar Volleyball team headed into Mountain Valley League District Tournament in second place. They played Butte Falls in their first game and got off to a slow start and fell to Butte Falls in 3. Their next match was against North Lake for 3rd of 4th place. The Lady Cougars were able to get their offense rolling and defeated the North Lake Cowgirls in 5 games. 21-25, 25-18, 25-21, 13-25, 15-6.

The Cougars received perfect serving at the tournament from sophomore outside hitter Keirstyn Anderson who went 21-21 from the service line and Freshman Middle Heather Lass who went 30-30 from the line. Anderson also added 16 kills and 6 blocks and Lass had 21 kills, 15 blocks and 3 assists. Senior Outside Hitter Kayla Pulley served 16/17 and added 12 kills and 2 blocks. Sophomore setters Kristalyn Mahoney and Kristen Reynolds did a great job of setting all day with Mahoney totaling 19 assists and Reynolds with 23 assists. Mahoney also added 4 kills and 4 blocks. Reynolds had 2 kills and 3 blocks and went 21/22 from the service line. Sophomores Caree Mickelson and Shelbie Selnar shared time at the net, Mickelson totaled 2 kills, 9 blocks and went 21/23 serving. Selnar had 4 kills and 2 blocks and 1 assist. Sophomore Morgan Thompson served 19/24 and had 1 block. Senior Libero Alexis Zellar did a good job in the back row for the Cougars. Kayla Pulley was named to the All Tournament Team. The Lady Cougars are headed to Cove for their first round regional match on Wednesday.
