David Norman Nelson Sr., 84, died Dec. 22, 2009 at his home in Eagle Point.
Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 13, 1925 and grew up in northern Minnesota. He enlisted in the US Army in April 1944. He was one of many who were heroes in WWII. He served in General George Patton’s 3rd Army, XX Corps, 10th Armored Division ( “Tigers”) Combat Command B, Company C. The 10th played key roles in several of the War’s greatest battles, including Combat Command B’s gallant defense of Bastogne.
After the war, Mr. Nelson moved to Medford where he met and married Dixie Joanne Moore in February 1956. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in and around the Rogue Valley until retirement.
He is survived by two brothers, James (Minn.) And Robin (Fla.), four children; sons, David Jr., of Portland, Dale (Patty) of Beavercreek, Ore., Darrell of Eagle Point and a daughter, Debra (Greg) Brown of Eagle Point; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dixie, and brother, Roy.
Internment is in Eagle Point National Cemetery. At his request, no service was held.
