Virgil Jenkins

Virgil Jenkins, 81, of White City, died Jan. 3, 2010 at his residence.

Mr. Jenkins was born in Albuquerque, N.M. on May 6, 1928, to Carl and Bertha (White) Jenkins.

He served in the U.S. Army from June 1952 to June 1954, during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Sergeant. On Dec. 31, 1951, in Sand Point, Idaho, he married the former Edwina La Salle. They have been Oregon residents for 43 years.

Mr. Jenkins was in administration at the Veterans Administration. He was a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul, CASA and he was a senior advocate for nursing homes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and built the log home where they resided.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Christine Starks of Lakeport, Calif. And Janette Gallo of Eagle Point; a sister, Viola Temelton of Seattle; a brother, Carl Jenkins of Elmira, Idaho, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
