Six months ago seven-year-old Ethan Jostad complained of his chest hurting when he was laying in bed. Just over two weeks later doctors at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland advised that Ethan had Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. This form of cancer strikes only about 450 children annually. The family learned that Ethan was already at Stage IV, so rare only about 250 are so diagnosed.

Since August trips to Portland have been numerous. Just after Christmas he and his father flew to New York where they spent about five weeks while Ethan underwent special treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital. They returned home early this month. Currently treatment is continuing in and out of Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Ethan is a student at Eagle Rock Elementary and on Thursday, Mar. 18 the community is gathering for a major fundraiser. The event will be held at the Little Butte School cafeteria. Fire District 3 will serve a spaghetti dinner, which  will be followed by a dessert auction.

Nancy Thompson has made a quilt which will also be auctioned. And, of course, cash donations will be more than welcome at paypal.com, and under the Home Screen, select Send Money. Their account is: jostad@charter.net or donations may be made at Rogue Federal Credit Union to the Ethan Jostad account.
