Mallards get new home at Denman

Delta Waterfowl, although only in the area for a year, is wasting no time in an effort to attract and protect mallards.

The local chapter installed  a dozen hen houses and eight wood duck nesting boxes at Denman Refuge last Saturday. By placing them in the water and on a metal pole, it will protect the hens from the critters that like to steal eggs. The wire and grass containers are small enough that geese can’t intrude.

This is the first major project the local chapter, which is affiliated with the national Delta group.
Chapter President Steve DeBerry said the group hopes to make this project an annual one.
