Butte Falls lost close one on way to state

Butte Falls became the District Champions at a tournament held in Butte Falls on Saturday, Feb. 20 by defeating Hosana Christian and Triad.

Harley Casillas earned the Most Valuable Player for his effort in both games. In the first game with Hosanna, Casillas scored 16 points. He had six steals and four assists. Against top-seeded Triad, Casillas had 17 points, four steals and three 3-pointers. With a minute to go, Butte Falls had a one point lead. Casillas’ performance at the free throw line gave the Loggers another two points and the 41-38 victory.

Quinton Weaver had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks in the first game and 17 points against Triad.
Josh McGonagle had eight points and 10 rebounds against Hosanna.   

Final scores were Butte Falls 53- Hosanna Christian 42 and Butte Falls 41- Triad 38.

Weaver and McGonagle were named to the second All conference team.

Butte Falls Coach Kim Horn and the Triad Coach were named co-Coaches of the Year.    

And last Saturday night Harley Casillas scored 28 points and tried his hardest to score just two more to bring victory to Butte Falls, but the basket with just three seconds remaining fell short. The final score was Powder Valley 63-Butte Falls 62.

Butte Falls fought back from a 12 point deficit at half-time with Casillas scoring 19 of his 28 points in the second half.

Quinton Weaver tallied six points, but had 14 rebounds. Josh McGonagle also had six points, six rebounds and five assists. Lehman Adams, only a sophomore, had a seven point night.
