Josephson brings home state title for Eagles

Eagle Point wrestlers returned home from the state championships with one state champion. Steven Josephson capped his career against Cody Jones of Dallas in the 160 lb. division Saturday night. It is the first title for Eagle Point since 2006.

It was a hard fought match with the score going back and forth before Josephson earned the title with a score of  9-8.

The Eagles scored a total of 101 points, earning a fifth place and for the first time in several years scored ahead of Crater, which ended with 95.5 points and a sixth place.

The Eagles sent 16 to the state competition.

At the end of the first day of the state wrestling competition in Portland, Eagle Point was in third place with 38 points. Hermiston was 1st with 55.5 points, Crater 2nd with 43 points. Churchill was only a half point behind Eagle Point and Lebanon was in fifth lace just one point behind the Eagles.

At 160- Josephson had a decision over Ry Rosevear, Sherwood, that earned them right to the championship round.

Other placings included: Aarno Lorenz earned 4th at 103; 112- Gordon Downing was 8th; 135- Trent Kaiser was 4th and Travis Woods was 8th ; 171- Gage Baumer-6th.
