Retirement of Medford Police K9 "Robb"

On Sunday, Mar. 14th, Medford Police K9 “Robb” officially retired ending 9 years of service with the Medford Police Department, most recently assigned to the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement Team (MADGE).

K9 “Robb”, an 11 year old English Springer Spaniel, was first placed into service with MPD on Nov. 29, 2000.  He was assigned to Canine Officer Rob Havice.  (The K9 was imported from London, England by Far Fetched Retrievers in Santa Barbara, California.  He was already named “Robb” and by coincidence assigned to a handler with the first name of Rob.)

“Robb” was certified by both the Oregon Police Canine Association (OPCA) and the California Narcotics Canine Association (CNCA).

On his last official day of work, K9 “Robb” was deployed by Ofc. Havice on a traffic stop on Interstate 5.  K9 “Robb” alerted on the vehicle.  The vehicle was subsequently seized and 7 kilos of cocaine was located in a hidden fabricated compartment inside the car.

Officer Havice and K9 “Robb” assisted the following agencies: Medford Police Department Patrol Division, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Ashland Police, Talent Police, Phoenix Police, Central Point Police, Gold Hill Police, Eagle Point Police, Shady Cove Police, Rogue River Police, Grants Pass Department of Public Safety, Josephine County Sheriff’s Department, US Marshall’s Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Secret Service, Federal Aviation Administration, US Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, JACNET, Douglas Interagency Narcotic’s Team, US Customs and US Postal Inspectors.

In addition, the team of Rob and “Robb” conducted drug searches at a number of local school districts including:  Medford School District, Central Point School District, Eagle Point School District, Ashland School District, Rogue River School District, St. Mary’s High School and Phoenix/Talent School District.
