On April 20, 2010 Medford Police Department responded to the Libery Bank at 295 E. Barnett Rd. for a reported armed robbery.
The suspect had fled the bank in an eastbound direction prior to officers’ arrival. Early information is that the lone male suspect entered the bank and presented a demand note to the teller. He then displayed a black revolver from his waistband. He obtained an undetermined amount of cash from the teller, and then fled.
Through the good investigative work of MPD Detectives Justin Ivens and Bill Ford, the suspect was identified that same afternoon as: Ronald A Prothro of Daytona Beach, Fl. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Prothro, and a law enforcement alert was placed on the suspect’s vehicle.
On Sunday April 25, a K-9 officer working durg interdiction in Tyler, TX ran the license plate of a passing vehicle and was alerted to the suspected connection with the bank robbery in Medford, OR. The officer waited until another officer arrived, and they stoped the suspect vehicle. Prothro was in the vehicle and was subsequently arrested on the outstanding warrant.
