The Eagle Point High School Equestrian Team once again rose to the occasion and took their competition by surprise. This year’s team was made up of team captain senior Megan Stanek, senior Cathryn Gilbreath, sophomore Jordan Stubbs and freshman Katie Curnow. Though only a team of four, the Eagles proved strength is not always in numbers, but in hard work and consistency as well.
In the team event, In Hand Obstacle Relay, all four athletes together took the gold medal after completing the season with a first place and two second place finishes. Megan Stanek and Jordan Stubbs swept all three district meets in Two Man Birangle and with a first and second place finish in Working Pairs, took home gold meals in both events.
Cathryn Gilbreath won the silver medal in the In Hand Trail event after finishing the season with a first and third place. Megan Stanek also qualified for state competition in Barrels and Pole Bending. Jordan Stubbs finished the third district meet with a third place in In Hand Trail and Katie Curnow placed fourth in the Working Rancher event. As well as these team and individual events, the Eagles won the District Championship High Point award for small team.
The athletes will be heading to state May 13-16, where they will be joining with the other area teams to form a single team to represent Southern Oregon. The Eagles will be competing in all the events for which they received medals or qualified. The state event takes place at the Jackson County Fairgrounds.
Head Coach Kenny Stanek and Performance Coach Laura Johnson are very proud of the team this year and their accomplishments. They would like to thank the valued supporters and sponsors of the team as well as the dedicated parents.
