Abduction attempted

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in an attempted child abduction in White City.

On Sunday May 16 at approximately 2 p.m., deputies responded to the juvenile victim’s residence after she reported being approached by a middle aged male, in dark clothing, driving an older model, dark colored, cargo van.

The male reportedly ordered the juvenile into his van, and then exited the van to approach her when she refused. The young girl pulled out her cell phone and ran, at which point the suspect returned to his vehicle and fled the area.

Citizens are encouraged to speak with their children about stranger safety, and instruct them to travel in groups when not with familiar adults. Anyone with information that may be relevant can call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Tip Line at (541)774-8333. If you see any suspicious activity occurring in your area, call 911.

This is the second attempt to abduct someone in White City within the last two or so weeks. It is not known if there is a connection.
