Longtime Eagle Point resident, Michael Scott Hannah, 49, died May 5, 2010, in Las Vegas, Nev.
He fought lung cancer with great courage and determination, never giving up. He would skype family daily, smiling and planning his next fishing trip. His death has put a gigantic hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Mr. Hannah was born July 4, 1960, in Medford and lived in the Eagle Point area most of his life. On Dec. 18, 1981, he married Melody Chappel, who survives.
He was a hard-working man with the ability and skills to build or repair almost anything. He enjoyed many outdoor sports and spending time with his beloved children and grandchildren. His love of the water and sailing prompted a move to St. Croix, Virgin Islands in 2007, where he and his wife purchased a home until the pull of grandchildren brought them back to the states.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Shauna Smithee (Bryan); son, Jerod Hannah (Dawn); his parents Tom and Cheryl Hannah and Beth and Wayne Summit; a sister, Jody Luney (Ken); grandmother, Vera Hannah; step-brothers, Dan Hopkins, Scott Thomas and Jeff Powell; five grandchildren and many other close family members.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Hannah; sister, Tammie Snavely; and grandparents, Everett Hannah and Alma and Raymond Price.
A picnic lunch to celebrate his life was held May 15 at Touvelle State Park
