Prospect is going to reach out to help its own with the first Mill Creek Festival to be held on May 29. Wh
They care about the many veterans in the Prospect area, actually in the 97539 zip code and are putting together a huge variety of activities to raise money to help them.
The May 29 festival will begin with a 10 mile run, starting at 7:30 a.m. There will be a parade at 10:30 a.m. From 11-6 one will find a variety of activities for children.
Any fund raising event to be successful looks for something a bit different and this group has found it. They are planning a bed race starting at 12 n. The bed race requires three or four person teams. At least one mattress has to be on wheels so it can be pushed or pulled. At least one team mate must ride the mattress and the mattress and those pushing and pulling must have a theme. There is a $5 per person entry and the 1st place will be a new mattress set.
Other events include a very special, emotional time when there will be an official flag retirement ceremony. This will be at 6 p.m.
Between the 12n and 6 p.m. events there will be a variety of booths. You won’t find duplicate booths at this event. If there is a sno-cone booth, there will be one; if there is homemade jewelry, there will be one. Booths are $20 without electricity and $30 with power. Booths will be open from 8 a.m. until dusk.
The music should have a lot of appeal. Names may be a bit different but plan on doing a lot of listening to groups such as Cleopatra and the Nile boys from 1-3, KGB and the Fatty Twisters from 3-6, and the Bathtub Gin Serenaders from 9-12 p.m. And then from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. it will an open jam. Other events will include a horseshoe tournament with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. First place will receive a teak bench form Three Sisters Teak.
All events will be presented by the Prospect Hotel and the Trophy Room and in that space.
